BHA FAQ as of 04-01-10
What is the price of the Model 89?
The Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price is $1889.00 for the base matte stainless steel/walnut model. See order form for pricing on other configurations. If your state or municipality has special requirements for firearms (special locks, importing paperwork, etc.), the price will be somewhat higher and based upon the specific requirements in your locality.
Is the Model 89 available for export?
Export availability and pricing is yet to be determined. Please contact us for specific requirements.
How is the Model 89 configured?
We are offering a 22" barrel on the rifle and an 18" barrel on the carbine version. Please refer to the specification sheet for further information.
Is the Model 89 based on an existing rifle action?
No, the Model 89 is completely designed by Big Horn Armory. It is purpose built specifically for the .500 Smith & Wesson.
Where is the Model 89 made?
The Model 89 and all of its component parts are proudly made in the USA.
Will you chamber the Model 89 in .460 Smith & Wesson?
There are no definite plans for one at this writing. Unfortunately, we haven't solved the difficult parts concerning the .460 S&W Magnum. We have considered creating a lever gun in .460 S&W Magnum, but this cartridge has a significantly higher pressure maximum. While we believe our action could stand up to such pressure, we would not offer it until we would have a chance to do a great deal of testing.
Aside from the pressure issue, the fact that the feeding of lever guns are very sensitive to cartridge length causes us great concern were we to offer a .460. We know people would like to use it for .45 Colt and .454 Casull, just like they could in a revolver. Since these cartridges have a maximum overall length of approximately 1/2" less than the .460 S&W Magnum, we are fairly certain that the shorter cartridges would not feed properly through an action set up for the .460 S&W. We don't want to sell a product that would cause our customers to be unhappy.
When will the Model 89 be available?
The standard Model 89 should be ready for shipment about the beginning of the third quarter 2010. We are taking orders now.
Will you make custom Model 89's?
We will offer custom gun work. Lead times and availability will depend on what is requested and our capabilities.
What materials are used in the construction of the Model 89?
The receiver, lower tang, bolt, lever, barrel and most of the internal parts are made from 17-4 stainless steel. The stock sets are made of No. 2 Fancy walnut.
Will you offer composite, laminate, synthetic or other artificial stock materials?
We may offer other stock materials for custom Model 89's. Contact us for availability. See order form for details.
What kind of recoil pad is provided on the Model 89?
We use a 1” Pachmayr Decelerator pad.
How does a dealer order the Model 89?
Upon providing us with a copy of his FFL, we will be happy to offer dealer pricing direct to the dealer.
What are the ballistics for the Model 89?
Ballistics are dependent upon the specific cartridge/bullet combination. Our testing with various factory .500 S&W loads show an approximate increase of 200-400 fps over the factory ratings. Your experience may vary.
